Byers was a lifetime member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was involved with the Alleghany Home Demonstration Club and she was a Girl Scout and 4-H Club leader. Byers was employed by the Silk Mill and Westvaco. She was born March 2, 1911, a daughter of the late Odie Rhodes Akers and John Wallace Akers. Byers, who preceded her in death in 1991.
